The Gibbes Museum of Art, originally the Gibbes Art Gallery, is a South Carolina art museum in Charleston. The Carolina Art Association was founded in 1858, and in 1905, it relocated to a new Beaux Arts facility at 135 Meeting Street in the Charleston Historic District.
The nation celebrated what Charleston has long recognized when the Gibbes Museum opened in 1905: the power of art to inspire our creativity, heal our hurts, exult in our experiences, mend what's broken, nurture our souls, and release all that holds us back.
We welcome all audiences, from frequent visitors to first-time visitors, as Charleston's only visual arts museum. We greet visitors with a free and open-to-the-public activity-filled first level. Tickets for the galleries on the second and third floors can be purchased.
