Goat Island is a barrier island on the Intracoastal Waterway between Mt. Pleasant and Isle of Palms, South Carolina. It is one of the region's tiniest populated islands, being only as wide as a residential street.
This little and basic rustic island, yet secluded from civilization by sea, remains to be a pleasant hideaway for anyone fortunate enough to visit or live there.
The island's owner recently finished a fully rebuilt shelter for the goats. Since moving to South Carolina from New Hampshire in 2019, Brett and Lisa Young have been looking forward to being a part of it. There was one thing holding them back, as delighted as they were about the relocation.
Every year, from April until November, the goats live on Goat Island. They aid in the control of the undergrowth. On Facebook, you can keep up with the goats by clicking here. The island has benches and a shelter for them to use in the event of bad weather or rising water.
