There is evidence that the crawl space is being invaded by water or moisture. And the cause might be anything from a leaky water pipe that runs underneath the crawl space to excessive levels of humidity in the air during the hot summer months.
Is there any way to dry up a damp crawl space?
Crawl space encapsulation is one of the few waterproofing methods that is as successful as it is. Using this method, a local contractor will cover your floors and walls with a vapor barrier that is made of thick plastic that is resistant to tearing. A 20-mil barrier is what we suggest using to get the best possible results.
What are some solutions for a damp crawl space?
It could take anywhere from eight to ten hours to completely dry out a crawl space that has been flooded. Warm air that is moving gathers up moisture more readily than still air does. Place a source of low heat, such as a light bulb, inside the crawl space, and set one or more electric fans in a location where they will blow air across damp surfaces. This will expedite the drying process.
Should I seal my crawl area against moisture?
It is strongly recommended by building scientists and other experts in the building trade that crawl areas be encased or sealed. This update makes buildings more energy efficient and removes problems with moisture, mold, and vermin in the crawl area. It also makes the crawl space more aesthetically pleasing. There are several crawl spaces that require waterproofing as well.
How can I prevent moisture from getting into my crawl space?
In order to prevent moisture from accumulating in the area beneath the home, we insulate it using foil-faced rigid insulation. Any moisture issues that you now have in the crawlspace, such as water droplets collecting on the concrete walls and pipes, will be resolved once you install the insulation and the plastic.
Is it typical for crawl spaces to have water in them?
The bad news is that most crawl spaces have a lot of moisture, as well as wood and other organic materials on which mold can develop. This is a perfect environment for mold to flourish. Mold also enjoys feeding on dead insects, of which there are typically many in abundance in the crawl space as well. The vents in the crawl space are like putting out a welcome mat for bugs and other crawling creatures.
